National Kidney Foundation Inc.
One year ago, I donated my kidney to my brother Paul (my only sibling). He was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure at age 25 and survived his kidney disease on dialysis for 5 years. He nearly died during those 5 years, and we were fortunate enough that I was a match for kidney donation.
The National Kidney Foundation provided us with a community of families who shared in our struggle. We have participated in NKF's Kidney Walk for the past 3 years, and it continues to inspire me to see the community connected together to support such a great cause.
The Kidney Walk is a non-competitive 5K community-building event and fundraiser, with over 1,000 individuals – including members of corporate and medical community – join dialysis patients, transplants recipients, living donors and the general public to celebrate life while participating in an inspiring, community-based event.
